since it is really slow here in cards land today..anyone have any comments on other teams moves in offseason.. Since the draft has not even occured - this is way premature - but I will wildly speculate anyway!
1. I am somewhat of a raiders fan - but I think the gig is up and they will not qualify for the playoffs (kansas city and san diego might both make it) next season. The super bowl loss was devastating and they only seem to add more old guys.. they have
two 1st round draft picks..but they will have to cut more guys to get under the cap to sign the draft picks..draft may change things..but they have to cut so many players and only be left with the old guys who are running out of gas..
2. Our division (other than cardinals - jury still out) seems to have flip flopped. THe rams have lost some guys and are rolling the dice that the big 3 players will come thru (bruce, faulk, warner). I think they will be marginal.
3. San francisco seems to be rebuilding - and they just got alot worse at the coaching position in my opinion.
4. Seattle had a decent 2nd half and have kept their best players and added a few good guys..seem to be improving.
5. Washington - accident waiting to happen. they will find it tough to beat the eagles and giants.
6. My guess is that parcells unloads more guys and writes the season off..he will fix it so he will not be in salary cap hell and can make some moves in 2nd and 3rd season.. I think they might be the worst team in the league next season (scary).
7. unless minnesota starts landing some big free agents (like holliday) they may be battling the cowboys and the bears for one of the worst teams.. I am not sold on tice at all...
I think we could have 4 teams at the bottom:
1. cowboys, 2. Minnesota and 3. Chicago 4. houston. Minnesota can still be upgraded if they start signing some free agents. kordells sucks..
The trendy move up picks are jacksonville and carolina...I am not fully convinced..but I think jacksonville is in a better position - carolina had a longer road to move up and I am not sure jake delhomme is the answer.
I think the cardinals, detroit and cincy will each improve some. Houston seems to be extremely cap sensitive.. they have a bunch of $$ to spend..but do not bring in big hitters.. seems they are a slower plan to success - which they can probably afford due to the fact that fans will cut them slack as they are expansion team.
But hey...the draft will change all of this - but each team will upgrade slightly - so at the end of the day it could be a wash. The teams picking qbs are not going to get much better next season via the draft (1st round qbs anyway).
teams to beat right now:
AFC: Jets, Patriots, dolphins, Jacksonville, Tennessee, KC, san diego.
NFC: eagles, Bucs and falcons.. then a decent size drop off..cannot tell.. teams like green bay lost quite a few players..but the division green bay is in is so weak they may win by default..If I had to pick a team in the west..it would be the seahawks.
Probably 2 teams with cap space will improve themselves quite a bit with June 1st cuts..
By the way..my picks (except for eagles, bucs and jets) are quite a bit different than many of the current power rankings.. most have the raiders still near the top..
