NFL insider Cameron Wolfe recently shed some light on how the Jacksonville Jaguars plan to utilize Brian Thomas Jr. this season.
According to Wolfe, Thomas Jr. is expected to see his share of downfield targets in 2026.
This isn't a new role by any means for Thomas, but Wolfe's report more so confirms what is to be expected. In Year 1 under Liam Coen, Thomas' average depth of target was 14.4 yards compared to just 11.3 yards as a rookie, according to ESPN.
The addition of Jakobi Meyers last season, who took on the role of running those intermediate routes and attacking the middle of the field, allowed Thomas to see more downfield opportunities.
By all accounts, Thomas put together a very strong showing during offseason programs. SI's Albert Breer recently noted that the improved connection with Trevor Lawrence -- a point of emphasis this offseason -- and Thomas being healthy were two key factors behind his play this spring.
Thomas putting together a bounce-back season as a deep threat could do wonders for the Jaguars' offense. Beyond generating more explosive plays, his presence will garner the attention of defenders, helping to create opportunities for others in the Jaguars' offense to take advantage of.
