Brian Thomas Jr may have an increased role in the offense this season.
NFL Insider Provides Opinion On Jaguars Use of Thomas
The Jacksonville Jaguars have emphasized the importance of utilizing Thomas in head coach Liam Coen's offense for the 2026 season. NFL insider Cameron Wolfe discussed how the Jaguars might maximize Thomas's potential by increasing his involvement in specific routes.
"Look for Brian Thomas to be used a lot down the field on vertical routes," said Wolfe. "They think that's where he can really take that next step."
Jacksonville's offense ranked 11th in Total Offense last year, averaging 337.4 yards per game. In year two of Coen's offense, Thomas can benefit more from the scheme and have more opportunities.
Thomas ran a total of 471 routes in 2025, with an average of 14.7 yards per reception. He also accumulated 14.4 Average Depth of Target. That says that Thomas is going down field at a reasonable rate. With some extra targets, chemistry with the quarterback is important.

Jacksonville head coach Liam Coen talked about Thomas' potential effectiveness in the offense back in OTAs.
“We're being a little bit more intentional about usage and chemistry with him this spring and trying to get a true connection we didn't quite have last spring or last training camp," Coen said. "I've been very pleased with how he's taken the things that we asked him to do, to get better at, and to be intentional about those reps."
The Jaguars receiving core has a lot of talent with Thomas, Parker Washington, Travis Hunter and Jakobi Meyers. They also have a really good tight room, so Thomas may get more single coverage and that can contribute to him getting more vertical targets.

Last season in 2025, Thomas caught 48 passes for 707 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games played. He did miss time with an ankle injury that occurred in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders, and he dealt with a shoulder issue also. Thomas was drafted with the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and had a great rookie season with 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns, being named to the Pro Bowl. He a bit of a subpar year two in the NFL but with year three looming, it's note worthy that he may be back to form and possibly replicate his rookie season, especially with how his role with the offense will be in 2026.
