The 2026 NFL season officially kicked off with the Hall of Fame Game on Friday, and in rare fashion for early preseason action, provided fans with plenty to get excited about. Arizona Cardinalsrookie quarterback Carson Beck put on a passing clinic, while fellow rookie signal-caller Haynes King was electric and scored a game-winning touchdown for the Carolina Panthers. However, one aspect of the game that fans were welcomed back to was Cris Collinsworth in the booth, and no one was more excited about the new season than he was.
When Beck got the nod for the Cardinals as the game's starter, it was hard to predict the stellar performance the former Georgia/Miami quarterback put on display, but to say Collinsworth was loving it would be an understatement.
Beck finished the night 15-of-19 passing for 188 yards and one touchdown, and his play was so impressive that Collinsworth had to be calmed down by fellow commentator Mike Tirico before the first quarter of the season had even wrapped up.
As one fan highlighted, Collinsworth had to be cooled off by Tirico as he was ramping up the quarterback's hype before the end of the first quarter.
Fans quickly piled on not only to the moment itself but also to Collinsworth's overwhelming praise of Beck, which was a constant throughout the first half of Thursday's game.
Not surprisingly, Collinsworth continued heaping praise on Beck, while adding a few "WOW" type of reactions to various plays made by the signal-caller. Even less surprising was that fans were obviously taking note of it throughout Beck's entire debut.
"I'd pick Tomlin over Collinsworth every day. Chris was about to compare a semi sideways pass to mahomes until Mike called him out. Collinsworth is the most annoying of them all. I'd rather Brady and Mike on the call," one fan wrote.
The praise was so loud that fans even joked Collinsworth "found someone else," citing the jokes around his constant high praise for Patrick Mahomes.
As impressive as Beck was in his preseason debut, it's apparent that fans couldn't get enough of Collinsworth's return to the booth and, more specifically, his ability to completely buy into the new quarterback effectively after his first drive.
