The 2025 draft should be more about quantity than quality for the San Francisco 49ers.
That's not to say they don't need to find good players. They absolutely do, but they shouldn't be hunting them via trades up in the draft. After an offseason that saw much of their depth exit in free agency, San Francisco needs to stack up picks and give themselves as many chances as possible to find players who can contribute this season and beyond.
General manager John Lynch has typically been aggressive in trading up, but NFL Media's draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes they could go the opposite direction and trade down this year.
"I would not be surprised at all where they're picking," Jeremiah on Friday told reporters on a conference call. "They're sitting there picking at No. 11. If anybody wants to call and come up, I would think they would be more than willing to slide back and get more picks and take more shots at it."
There's a problem the 49ers run into in this scenario.
They'd be moving down because there's no player they're jumping to take at No. 11 overall. That may also be the case for the teams below them where a player would need to be so enticing that they're willing to give up draft capital to go get them.
It's likely the 49ers have trading down as their No. 1 priority in the first round, but they may not have a choice other than standing pat and making a selection, then they can try accumulating picks with trade downs on Day 2.
