Baltimore will have some crucial decisions to make immediately following their August 28 preseason finale against the Washington Commanders. The NFL has adjusted one of the most important dates on the league calendar, informing clubs that the 2026 deadline to reduce rosters from 90 players to the regular-season limit of 53 will be moved to Sunday, August 30. According to Tom Pelissero, teams must submit their final 53-man rosters by 6 p.m. ET on August 30, two days earlier than the Tuesday deadline used in recent seasons.

The change also accelerates the waiver process for the Ravens.

Waiver claims will be due by 1 p.m. ET on Monday, August 31, allowing teams to begin assembling their practice squads and finalizing roster decisions earlier than in previous years.

The NFL regular season is scheduled to begin September 9.

The NFL informed teams recently that this year’s cutdown deadline to 53 players will be 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 30 — not the following Tuesday, as it has been in recent years, sources say.

The adjustment represents a notable shift in the league's post-training camp timeline. In recent years, the final roster reduction deadline typically fell on the Tuesday following the conclusion of the preseason schedule. Last season, clubs had until August 31 to finalize their rosters after preseason training camp.

While the deadline has changed, the overall roster structure remains the same.

Baltimore will still carry 90 players through training camp and the preseason before reducing the roster to 53 players ahead of the regular season. What changes is the timeline organizations must follow when making some of the most difficult personnel decisions of the year.

The NFL previously experimented with multiple cutdown dates.

The current format allows coaches and personnel departments to evaluate the entire roster for a longer period without facing multiple mandatory reduction deadlines. For players competing for roster spots, the change means decisions could arrive sooner than expected.
