NFL announces 2026 compensatory draft picks, Packers get an extra selection

By some projections, the Green Bay Packers were expected to be awarded two seventh-round picks for the 2026 draft, because they didn’t offset the losses of center Josh Myers and linebacker Eric Wilson in free agency last year. The Packers would have been awarded higher picks for the losses of T.J. Slaton and Eric Stokes, but those would-be comp picks were offset by the signings of Aaron Banks and Nate Hobbs last cycle.

The NFL officially announced today that the Packers will receive just one extra seventh-round pick, the 255th overall pick in the draft. So they will not be getting the Wilson pick, which was right on the threshold of being counted or not and would have likely been the Mr. Irrelevant pick in the 2026 draft, had it been awarded.

For those following at home, interested in the 2027 compensatory free agent slating, the deal that quarterback Malik Willis signed will likely lead to a third-round pick next year, as long as Willis gets on the field and the Packers do not offset the loss with a signing.

Kingsley Enagbare signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the New York Jets, which is in the range of a sixth-round compensatory pick. Tackle Rasheed Walker (third-round), linebacker Quay Walker (fourth-round) and receiver Romeo Doubs (fourth-round) are also expected to qualify for compensatory free agents, based on their contract projections. That trio has yet to sign, though. Green Bay can only be awarded a maximum of four compensatory picks in a season, so they may be inclined to spend in the $10 million range to get a free roll on cancelling out the Kingsley loss without it impacting them in any way in terms of their 2027 compensatory picks.
