The Los Angeles Chargers have had what seems to be a very productive offseason as they have been able to get the roster much healthier and have been able to add pieces on both sides of the ball, which could be critical for 2026.
With the offseason that the Chargers have had, it is quite possible that they could compete for a Super Bowl, which this year happens to be right at home as it is in SoFi Stadium.
When looking at the expectations and the talent of this roster, Chris Simms of Pro Football Talk seems quite optimistic and believes that the Chargers are Super Bowl contenders.
“I'm intrigued one by the Chargers because I am one that I do believe the Chargers are in a Super Bowl window, and if that offensive line can stay healthy, they will be a different force than even what we saw last year as a low-level playoff team," Simms said.
As Simms said, the offensive line staying healthy will be a critical component of the Chargers being able to be true contenders. When the group up front is healthy, Los Angeles has one of the better offensive tackle duos in the entire league in Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater.
On the interior, the Chargers also have some solid players in center Tyler Biadasz and a variety of guards in Cole Strange who is expected to start at right guard in addition to Kayode Awosika, Jake Slaughter, and Trey Pipkins III who are still competing for the starting left guard spot.
Once the Chargers do figure out the offensive line rotation and are able to stay healthy, that should be great news for star quarterback Justin Herbert and second-year running back Omarion Hampton to have great 2026 campaigns.
Later on in the PFT show, co-host Mike Florio also talked about the Chargers' offense and the positive impact that new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel seems to be making.
“But one clip I saw recently was Mike McDaniel with his offense, and it was an example of how he is trying to teach them and urge them to be fast fast fast in everything they do,” Florio added.
Over the past few seasons, McDaniel has been one of the more creative offensive minds in the entire NFL and as Simms talked about, his emphasis on speed is something that could be truly incredible for this offense.
On the perimeter, the Chargers have wide receivers Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, Tre' Harris, and Brenen Thompson, who all have their own level of speed and could massively benefit from McDaniel's scheme and Herbert's ability to push the ball downfield.
With the weapons that the Chargers have at receiver, in addition to the backfield and at tight end, this group has the ability to create tough matchups for the defense consistently, which could create one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.
Heading into next season, if the Chargers can stay healthy and use speed to their advantage, this team could have an opportunity to raise the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in franchise history.
