The sheer number of interviews is giving me the impression that they dont know what they want in their HC.

100%

I truly believe that Bidwill made the decision to fire Gannon the day of, due to backlash from fans. It feels painfully obvious that they had no plan going into this.

Them not doing the obvious and focusing on the top candidates is probably just typical Bidwill being Bidwill and being cheap. 13 (I think we're up to that now) is friggin insane. Especially including guys like Arthur Smith and Halfley.

One had an offense that was outscored by the opponent's defense and the other gave up 25 points to a bitter rival to blow a playoff game. That's who Bidwill apparently thinks are good enough to potentially be the HC of this team.

Well the biggest domino has just fallen. This should start to make things more interesting

I think that people are starting to panic a bit (mostly based on reports put out by agents) that Cards haven’t hired anyone, and that because they are doing their due diligence they must not know what they are doing.

Well, last thing first: last year the Bears interviewed 17 candidates before deciding on Ben Johnson. I doubt that they regret.

Second: you cannot interview coaches on playoff teams in person, and I would not be comfortable if they hired someone without meeting the person. All three of my top candidates are still playing.

Third: some days ago I made a list of coaching hires from the last couple of years. You can find it earlier in this thread. The very clear conclusion is that being among the first couple of teams to hire certainly doesn’t equal success.

I disagree they have worse resumes. I am curious why you think that is true?

More years experience in the league in most case. Better ranked defenses as DC for the Eagles. A superbowl appearance.

Which of the 3 listed do you think has a better resume?

Have your strawman back
Hilarious. Zay Jones and Mack Wilson were the only things standing between our current 3-14 season and a playoff spot. This is literally your argument.

Also not having Kyler Murray was the reason it was okay to be bad in 2023 and having Kyler Murray was the reason we were bad in 2025.

Not worried yet as there are several coaches still in the playoffs and if one or two of them are high on the list they will need to wait

No doubt they’re doing their due diligence. But the top choices on their list won’t come here. Hope I’m wrong.

Yes. But the Bears had made some bold moves the during their losing season. They also had a Qb in place.

See my first response.

We can only hope to find a needle in a haystack. If a top candidate is getting interviews with 4 other teams they probably are not choosing us.

Personally, if those are scaring potential HC's away, I DON'T WANT YOU HERE! We need someone with brass balls with an ego that says screw that.
In some ways yes, and it other ways no. It's less about being scared and more about viewing your best chance to be successful. Example...if you know that you have to go to the playoffs in 3 years or get fired, are you looking at the NFC West and saying that is the best path to do that? And if not, what other advantages are you getting to offset a very difficult division? It's more about best options than "fear".

The Eagles had a ton of talent on defense. Gannon wasn't elevating a team with mediocre talent on the defensive side into a good defensive team.

The Chargers don't have a ton of talent on defense, at least not in terms of big names, but they're still one of the top defenses in the league.

I mean...

Jonathan Gannon
3 years as a position coach
2 years as a coordinator

Chris Shula
5 years as a positional coach
2 years as a coordinator

Jesse Minter
11 years as a defensive coordinator between college and the NFL
Was interim HC while Harbaugh was suspended at Michigan

Anthony Weaver
played in the NFL
11 years as a position coach
3 years as a coordinator
2 years held the label of assistant HC

All of them.

We should remember, week 3 Conner goes down against 49ers and we lost by 1 point...
Week 4 against the seahawks Benson goes down and we lost by 3. So, we WERE competitive until we lost the running game. That's what the new regime should be taking into consideration

Maybe. There is an argument to be made that 2024 was the outlier year and not 2025. A lot of things need to happen to jump back to better than 2024 form and it is more than just the running game, IMO.
