how did this guy become owner?
He has a point. The taxes in Oregon are horrible. There are other cities that would like a basketball team. There is a reason that the only major league professional team of any kind in Oregon is the Trailblazers.

He could move to Seattle, Greenville/Spartanburg, Austin, Nashville, Tampa, or Jacksonville.

I can understand the tax perspective and give him some slack but he's notoriously cheap as he tried offering a college coach less he was making coaching college and finally signed an assistant as their head coach on a 1 year deal, all after Splitter overachieved and wasn't asking for a crazy salary. The owner is just super cheap. Had these things happened in a different order, he'd get more grace but after the coach debacle he doesn't have public favor on his side.

He makes Sarver look like Colangelo in his spending. With the expansion looming as well, I can't see other owners being happy he's messing with their payday to try and get a stadium also.

Billy Donovan has agreed to become the lead assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs and head coach Mitch Johnson, sources tell me and
@PeteThamel. After 11 seasons as a head coach in Chicago and Oklahoma City, Donovan accepts the position with the Western Conference champions.

For those who think Devin Booker is overpaid. Look at these contract numbers for Donovan Mitchell.

I always thought of Booker, Spida and Jamal Murray as guys who could be compared to one another based on their position and tenure in the nba. Murray is underpaid and probably the most clutch of the group when games are on the line. Book is overpaid. I think the Don is paid appropriately.

There is not a lot of light between Booker and Mitchell. And Booker has reached the Finals and is slightly younger.

And I still think Devin is overpaid - as are most of the higher paid NBA players. That isn't a rant against high salaries or a tirade against celebrities in general. I just think that thanks to the Supermax rules the league lost sight of the actual comparative value of players. The truly elite probably can carry a team enough to warrant such a huge chunk of the payroll but that's not true for the vast majority of stars. And in today's NBA I'd rather have an average shooting guard making 20M per than a Booker level player making 50M or more.

It’s odd how that when the league sets a max salary, it’s somehow insulting to offer the better players anything less than that.

Paying for past performance gets teams into trouble. Booker will be making $70m a year eventually and hasn’t made an all NBA team since 2024.
And hasnt even won a playoff game in 3 years, while Mitchell has taken his team to the playoffs all of the last three years, into the semifinals and conference finals the last two seasons.

Not to mention Mitchell has shown the ability to take any terrible franchise he’s been the leader of to the playoffs every year of his career, while Booker has only done so 4 out of 9 years.

I wish you weren't right about this.

I've got one word for you: East. The East has been historically much softer in recent years. How many times did Mitchell take the Jazz to the Finals?

is what it is... I wouldn't want either of them to be my supermax guy to build around, but you get a little more bang for your buck in terms of team success building around Mitchell than Booker.

They're all overpaid but I would pay a prime Jamal Murray more than prime Book or Spida.

he's def more clutch, but I think his injuries have hampered him during his prime and kept him from being the superstar I think he could have been.

That's great and all, but a) Mitchell never played with the Wolves. And b) He consistently got the Jazz to the playoffs, in the much tougher West and got Jazz to the second round a couple times, as a #1 (Booker has never even won a game in the playoffs as the #1 of his team and even missed the playoffs two years ago). Hell, Mitchell even got the Jazz to the playoffs as a rookie, when everyone thought the team was left for dead after it's star Heyward, left in FA... and then he kept them there for his entire run and then they completely bottomed out and haven't been heard from since.

Like I said, he never got the Wolves to the Finals let alone any round. ;)
