The city that never sleeps certainly never slept on its pro basketball team.

To reward to the loyal fanbase of the New York Knicks, the city will host a ticker-tape parade and a City Hall ceremony on June 18. Further details will be announced.

The Knicks clinched its third NBA championship on June 13, defeating the San Antonio Spurs in another come-from-behind victory fueled by all-star point guard Jalen Brunson, who scored 45 points in the game and was named MVP of the five-game series.

The team waited more than a half-century to hoist the championship trophy, having last done so in May 1973. In that series against the Los Angeles Lakers, which also took five games, center Willis Reed was the MVP.

The Knicks roster that year included eight future Hall of Famers, including Reed.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the Knicks’ grit over the decades has been reminiscent of the city itself.

“Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that ever year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks,” Mamdani said.

“New Yorkers have cheered for our team from packed living rooms in the Bronx to watch parties in Brooklyn, from bars in Queens to Staten Island to Manhattan, and Madison Square Garden,” he added. “Now it’s time for our city to celebrate together.”

City Hall and municipal buildings across the five boroughs will be illuminated in the Knicks’ colors of blue and orange on the day of the parade, Mamdani said.

The Knicks’ team plane arrived at Westchester County Airport near White Plains, New York, on June 14.
