The New York Giants have requested permission to interview Denver Broncos assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi for their head coaching vacancy, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

A Hillsdale and Oradell, New Jersey native, Rizzi has a prior connection to the Giants organization, having worked alongside general manager Joe Schoen during their time with the Miami Dolphins.

Rizzi is widely regarded as one of the NFL’s top special teams coaches, with a long track record of success. He spent over a decade coordinating special teams in Miami before joining the New Orleans Saints, where he later served as interim head coach.

Known for strong player relationships and attention to detail, Rizzi has emerged as a recurring candidate in head coaching searches. The Giants’ interest signals a broad approach in replacing their previous coach after another challenging season.

With familiarity between Rizzi and Schoen, the potential interview could carry added weight as New York seeks a leader to rebuild the franchise.
