When the New York Giants hired John Harbaugh as their new head coach in January, it was the first step in what will eventually become a massive change in culture and personnel.

The culture part seems to be seeping in nicely, and the personnel piece is beginning to come together as well.

"We brought guys in here that wanted to be here. And they’re going to play well," Harbaugh told an audience of Giants season ticket holders at the team's Town Hall in New York City on Monday night.

Harbaugh was clearly in charge on the stage with his new BFF and sidekick, general manager Joe Schoen. The two men have bonded to become the face of the Giants after the offseason front office restructure that saw the bulk of the administrative duties handed off to former NFL executive Dawn Aponte. The two men can now turn their focus to on-the-field issues only.

What has been done so far? Harbaugh is taking over a team that went 7-27 over the past two seasons. There were some salvageable parts, but others needed to be changed badly. So far, the Giants have been very busy.

From Paul Schwartz of the New York Post:

The results are in. The 90 players under contract for the start of the organized team activity practices this week do not represent the final roster, but it is probably darn close. Nothing is set in stone the third week of May, of course.

Looking at the depth chart from the standpoint of having 25 starters — 11 on offense, 11 on defense and three (kicker, punter, long snapper) on special teams — it looks as if Harbaugh and general manager Joe Schoen assembled a group in which 48 percent (12 of 25) of the starters are newcomers to the team.

That is quite an overhaul.

Special teams have always been Harbaugh's baby, and it's no surprise the entire unit has been turned over. The most interesting part is that there are three kickers in camp this summer. Don't you think Harbaugh was paying attention to the Giants' kicker woes the past two years?

They also have a new punter, Jordan Stout, Harbaugh's Pro Bowl punter from Baltimore, and a slew of gunner and returner candidates.

But what is most glaring is the type of players Harbaugh and Schoen are bringing in. Physical, versatile, and team-oriented. He has added toughness and hired coaches who stress it. There is speed where speed is needed and precision where it is called for.

The Giants are slowly morphing into Harbaugh's vision. The only thing left is to start winning.
