This past weekend, during the 2025 NFL draft, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen told reporters that the team would be picking up the fifth-year option of 2022 first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Questions remained regarding Thibodeaux's future with the team after the team selected Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter third overall. Rumors of a possible trade circulated on social media, but Schoen quickly shot those down.

"Kayvon is going to be here. We're excited to have him," Schoen said of the 24-year-old outside linebacker out of Oregon by way of Los Angeles. "You can't have enough pass rushers."

On Tuesday, the team formally filed the paperwork to keep Thibodeaux in Blue for the next two seasons. The deadline for exercising fifth-year option this year is May 1.

The fifth-year options for Seahawks OT Charles Cross and Giants OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux were filed today, per source. The paperwork on six from 2022 draft class (Travon Walker, Aidan Hutchinson, Jameson Williams, Chris Olave) have been filed so far. Deadline is Thursday.

The Giants also declined the option on their other 2022 first-round pick, offensive tackle Evan Neal. Thibodeaux was the fifth overall pick selection in the 2022 NFL draft and Neal was taken two picks later.

The former Alabama standout has had a rough go for the Giants, enduring multiple injuries and underperforming at right tackle. The team plans to try him at guard this summer.

Thibodeaux, who has amassed 21 sacks in 43 games played in his three seasons with the Giants, will carry a $9.9 million cap hit this coming season. His fifth-year option salary will be a fully guaranteed $14.1 million, all of which will be applied to the Giants' 2026 salary cap.
