It appears that the first domino of the NFL head-coaching cycle has fallen. The Arizona Cardinals do not have a new head coach, but the New York Giants should.
Wednesday evening, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Giants and former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh were finalizing a deal for him to become their new head coach.
USA TODAY's Art Stapleton reported overnight that Harbaugh and the Giants agreed to terms. All that was left was for Harbaugh to officially sign the contract and the Giants to announce it.
The Cardinals had some initial contact with Harbaugh with a phone call but did not get on the interview list.
Even without Harbaugh, the Cardinals have interviewed or requested to interview 13 people for their head coaching job to replace Jonathan Gannon.
The Cardinals will face Harbaugh and the Giants on the road in 2026.
Harbaugh was the Ravens' head coach from 2008-2025, going 180-113 in the regular season and 13-11 in the postseason with a Super Bowl win. He was the most decorated coaching candidate available.
