The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles are expected to complete a trade for A.J. Brown soon, but the compensation is still unknown.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the compensation for Brown is still being finalized, but the deal is "on track" to happen. After months of speculation, Brown is expected to be a Patriot soon. The Eagles will have to wait until after 4 p.m. EST on Monday to make a trade official if they wish to sign Brown's cap hit over the next two seasons.

While a deal is expected to be finalized, and a 2028 first-round pick is expected to be sent to Philadelphia, the Patriots are reportedly hesitant to overpay for Brown, according to Philly Sports Network's Bryan Cameron. Why are the Patriots hesitant? Well, Cameron reports that it is because of his knee.

"Regarding the AJ Brown compensation in the Eagles-Patriots trade talks: From what I’ve heard, the Patriots’ reluctance to overpay stems from concerns about his knee," Cameron wrote on Monday. "That would help explain why reports have suggested the compensation is only a 2028 first-round pick."

After the 2020 season, Brown underwent a minor procedure on both of his knees. He has not had any major knee surgeries since then, but it has been a lingering issue he has managed and played through. He has over 5,000 yards over the last four seasons and has been a great receiver.

However, the Patriots may be concerned about how his knee issues will factor in as he gets older. While Schultz has reported that the compensation is still being worked out, it would make sense as to why the Patriots feel a 2028 first-round pick is enough to get a deal done.
