Even during an offseason where they reeled in two of the free-agent market's top two defenders, the Carolina Panthers' most impressive catch may be a former seventh-round pick.

To the surprise of many, the reigning NFC South champs scooped up former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Rasheed Walker, who signed a one-year, $4 million deal in the spring. The under-the-radar addition has had some executives in shock, especially given the price tag on a proven starter at a premium position.

Not everyone is overlooking the 26-year-old hog molly, though. A new piece at Pro Football Focus has put together the best NFL team consisting of only seventh rounders, and Walker made the cut along with Jordan Mailata of the Philadelphia Eagles at offensive tackle.

Daire Carragher writes:

Rasheed Walker has posted three straight season grades in the 60.0s with the Packers, logging the 12th-most snaps of any tackle in that timeframe. He’s still only 26 years old and is consistently better in pass protection than on run plays.

While the competition with first-round pick Monroe Freeling has not yet been settled, Walker is currently in the running to start at left tackle for the Panthers in the place of an injured Ikem Ekwonu. He is expected to get first-team reps at the position when training camp begins in late July.

If Walker winds up losing the job to Freeling, then he will serve as the primary backup at that spot. And even if that's the case, the Panthers still got themselves one heck of a bargain.
