This will be fun! I will definitely do my best to compete and play hard like our guys do every single night, and won’t let our Suns fans down! Might be tough at my age

I can’t help but believe he’s going to take this seriously and look like a fool.

But I’d do it in his shoes.

Gotta hand it to Ishbia, he's not reacting to a trade-heavy market right now. He's not out to make a KD splashy trade, just like he's been saying. While it would be nice to do something on the low end (Richards), the fact that we aren't making a big splash for a superstar is oddly refreshing.

I like Mat's strong stance against tanking. Of course, with our lack of draft picks, we have no reason to tank. But I'd like to think Ishbia is coming from the right place and our Suns continue to try to win even when we do have picks.

tbh - it's really easy to be deadset against tanking when you have no first round draft picks in the immediate future - im glad the cardinals tanked - im also glad the suns can't due to it not being beneficial - like at all

Mat Ishbia plans to offer a $1 million prize to the winners of the slam dunk and 3-point contests at the next All-Star Weekend in Phoenix.

That should garner some attention.

He's going to have to raise that number up if he wants to attract real stars. These guys make so much money now. Old guys like Dr. J might be enticed, LOL.

Maybe Mat is guiding the NBA in a gentle way on how to get more star participation in these contests.

Perhaps the NBA can up the ante and create other incentives as well.

I liked the star-studded 3-point contest, but I'm not sure stars are going to make much of a difference in the dunk contest. There isn't much out there that hasn't been seen. Whether it's Mac McClung or Aaron Gordon, the dunks don't change all that much nowadays.

TBH, I don't like money being used as incentive. It's a bad look when these guys already make so much.

It should be mandatory that if asked by the league to attend, you should attend or face suspension.

Also there needs to be bonus points attached to winning the award for the player and perhaps the team to incentivize it even more.

For that to work they'd need to have a large tournament or pool of players so each team could be represented. There were years the Suns would have been screwed as no one was getting all-star nods or invited to the Saturday events.

A small tournament might be ok for the 3pt contest but it would water down the dunk contest.

That's kind of interesting. Each team could have a representative and narrow it down through competition until All-Star Weekend when the main event would occur.

There could be incentives for the players and the team. Draft, playoff byes, prizes and money could be among the rewards.

IDK. The three point contest is pretty damn good as it is. They messed with the dunk contest, and now they have to fix it. Sometimes simpler is better.

It would be exciting to put a defender on the dunker. Maybe draw from a pool of good defenders.

I was thinking of other sports with subjective scoring, like figure skating. Maybe there are compulsory dunks, either assigned by the panel or drawn randomly out of a hat in front of of the crowd. Then each guy is graded on these dunks. So all the participants are compared on the same dunks. Then if you make the next round, you can do your routine, so to speak.
