UNCASVILLE - Tournament MVP Jaidelis Rivera scored 10 of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter as fourth-seeded New London pulled away from No. 2 Woodstock Academy for a 47-41 in Monday's Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls basketball tournament championship game at Mohegan Sun Arena.
New London (16-6) has won four of the previous five Division I tournament titles and seven of the last 10.
Joarelisse Guzman scored 12 of her 16 points in the first half for the Whalers. All 12 of her first-half points were on 3-pointers.
Kaylee Saucer scored 12 for Woodstock (18-5). It had beaten New London twice during the regular season, 42-33 (Dec. 15) and 56-33 (Feb. 13).
