Boston Legacy FC will hope to have "the right stuff" as the new National Women's Soccer League club plays its debut match against defending champions Gotham FC.
And it looks like they'll be getting an assist from a legendary Boston boy band.
On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the Legacy announced that New Kids on the Block will perform at halftime of the team's NWSL debut match at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, March 14, which is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff.
"We’ll never stop being Boston fans — we are loyal to the end," NKOTB member and actor Donnie Wahlberg said in a press release. "This halftime performance is part of a new and exciting chapter in Boston sports history and we are so happy to be a part of it."
The multi-platinum pop group, who are currently in the midst of a Las Vegas residency, will be featured throughout the Legacy's opening match, including a half-time performance medley of the group's biggest hits that the club says will be "quintessentially NKOTB and quintessentially Boston."
"Welcoming NKOTB to Gillette Stadium for our home opener is just the beginning of what will be an unforgettable inaugural season," Legacy president Jennifer van Dijk said. "On March 14, we’ll celebrate everything that makes Boston special — from professional sports and music to our public schools and fiercely loyal fans. By bringing together the Boston Legacy FC and NKOTB fan bases, we’re creating a once-in-a-lifetime moment for our city."
The Legacy have sold over 20,000 tickets to its debut match, with tickets still available starting at $37.50. The club will split its 2026 home schedule between Gillette, which is set to host seven matches of the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, and Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. The Legacy are scheduled to move into their permanent home, a newly-renovated White Stadium in Boston for which they'll split stewardship with Boston Public Schools, for the 2027 season.
The team will be hosting several theme nights at both stadiums throughout the course of the 2026 season, including Pride nights (May 3 for Gillette, Aug. 9 for Centreville Bank), a Swiftie night (April 3 at Gillette), a Hometown Heroes night (May 22 at Centreville Bank) Youth Soccer Day (July 25 at Centreville Bank), Black Joy Night (Aug. 31 at Gillette) and Debi Jugar Mas Futbol (Sept. 20 at Gillette). The Legacy also recently announced a Fourth Wing Night, themed around the best-selling "Empyrean" romance fantasy series by Rebecca Yarros, on May 12 at Gillette.

It's been a busy past few weeks for the Legacy between training camp and unveiling the team's inaugural "First Light" home kit. Several members of coach Filipa Patão's squad have also been called in for international duty ahead of the debut match, including forwards Chloe Ricketts (United States U20) and Nichelle Prince (Canada), midfielders Barb Olivieri (Venezula) and Josie Hasbo (Denmark) and defenders Nicki Hernandez (Mexico) and Jorelyn Carabalí (Columbia).
The match against Gotham FC, which is set to be the latest addition to the longtime Boston-New York sports rivalry, will also see Hasbo take on her former team, having been acquired from the Harrison, NJ-based squad via trade on Feb. 12.
