The Miami Dolphins needed several new defensive backs this offseason, with so many of theirs hitting free agency when the new league year started over a week ago.

Miami made multiple signings quickly after free agency opened, including cornerback Darrell Baker Jr.

According to Over the Cap, Baker signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract that includes a $1.22 million salary ($1.08 million guaranteed) and a $187,500 signing bonus. His cap hit for the season is $1.26 million.

The Dolphins wouldn't save any money if they released Baker before Week 1, as the entire $1.26 million cap number would turn into a dead cap hit for the year. This, as well as the state of the team's cornerback room, likely means that Baker's spot on the roster may be guaranteed for 2026.
