On Monday, the New York Jets announced they were signing star guard Joe Tippmann to a huge four-year, $66.4 million extension. This contract will rank Tippmann in the Top 15 highest-paid guards in the NFL on annual per year salary. Also, $34.9 million of the contract is guaranteed.
This might not seem like it would matter at all to the Pittsburgh Steelers but the reality is that the Tippmann contract gives Pittsburgh a peak into what it will cost to re-sign guard Mason McCormick in the near future. The Steelers selected McCormick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft out of South Dakota State. McCormick was pressed into starting duty during his rookie campaign and has never looked back.
McCormick will head into the 2027 offseason with just one year left on his four-year, $4.784 million rookie contract. Should McCormick flourish as the team's new starting left guard, he could demand even more money in the 2027 offseason.
