The New York Jetssigned interior offensive lineman Joe Tippmann to a contract extension earlier this week. It's a four-year deal worth $66.2 million and includes $31M in guaranteed money. Tippmann will earn an average of $16.5 million per year throughout the duration of the extension.
A contract extension had been on the horizon. Tippmann, 25, was entering the final year of his rookie contract after being selected with the 43rd selection in the 2023 NFL draft. Signing Tippmann to an extension commits to continuity on offense after also inking Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson to extensions.
Tippmann entered the league as a center, but made the positional switch to guard for the Jets last offseason following the season-ending injury to Alijah Vera-Tucker. With Josh Myers still at center, Tippmann is expected to start at right guard for a second consecutive season. He closed out 2025 at his new position strongly, and having a whole offseason to prepare for his second campaign at guard could lead to even better results.
Comparing Tippmann's salary to other guards around the NFL, his new $16.5 million price tag ties him with Zion Johnson as the 13th-highest paid guard in the league. It comes nowhere near Tyler Smith, who earns a position-high $24 million per season. The Jets signed Tippmann to an extremely team-friendly extension.
That's a massive win for Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn.
