The Washington Commanders had just five picks in the 2025 NFL draft, but they used those picks wisely. Adam Peters began building this team last season, and while some of the short-term acquisitions aren't long-term solutions, he's been making moves to ensure the future of the Commanders remains bright.

Recently, ESPN's Field Yates made a list of his favorite picks from the 2025 NFL draft. He selected five picks from each round as his favorites, and the Commanders' seventh-round pick made the list.

Round 7: Jacory Croskey-Merritt, RB, Washington Commanders (No. 245)

Croskey-Merritt had a winding college path that started at Alabama State and ended at Arizona, though eligibility issues limited him to only 13 rushes for the Wildcats in 2024. He has a very intriguing combination of size, speed and overall footwork, but he must develop his instincts and vision. He's a moldable player for the Commanders to develop

Since the Commanders have a solid running backs room at the moment, selecting a player who needs to be developed ensures that the Commanders will have a running back next year. Brian Robinson Jr., Jeremy McNichols, Austin Ekeler, and Chris Rodriguez Jr. all made some kind of impact for the Commanders in 2024. Croskey-Merritt may or may not see the field this year, but you can be sure the Commanders will work to get him ready for 2026.
