Clemson is working on finalizing a new contract for basketball coach Brad Brownell, according to multiple reports.
ESPN and CBS reported Brownell's contract will be for six years that will run through 2031. Clemson's Board of Trustees compensation committee would have to approve the new deal.
This reported new contract comes after Brownell led Clemson to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances for the first time in his tenure. The Tigers also set a program record for total and conference wins this season.
Brownell was linked to the Indiana coaching job too, but the Hoosiers hired West Virginia’s Darian DeVries to replace Mike Woodson.
Brownell received a three-year contract extension in July 2024 to make his total contract length five years for $20 million that runs through 2029. He was the fourth-highest paid coach in the ACC this season and ranked 37th nationally. His new contract came after he led Clemson to the Elite Eight last season.
Brownell is the winningest basketball coach in Clemson history with 292 victories. He will look to add No. 293 when the fifth-seeded Tigers face No. 12 seed McNeese State in the first round of March Madness on Thursday (3:15 p.m. ET, truTV) at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island.
