The Brooklyn Nets (1-1) were not able to get the result they wanted in Saturday's 79-76 loss to Darius Acuff Jr. and the Sacramento Kings, but they had another chance to get a win with Sunday's matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks (1-1). Brooklyn did not play several players that appeared in Saturday's loss to the Kings, but the players that remained were able to get the job done.
The Nets beat the Bucks 89-69 in the California Classic on Sunday thanks to the efforts of players like guard Hunter Sallis and forward Ben Humrichous. Sallis had 15 points, six rebounds, and six assists while Humrichous had 15 points and eight rebounds to help lead the team to victory. Brooklyn was able to come up with the win thanks to solid offensive execution while being stifling on the defensive end.
Brandon Boston Jr. led the way for the Bucks with his 18 points and three rebounds while Kobe Stewart had 13 points and eight rebounds of his own. The Nets did not play guys such as Egor Demin or Chaney Johnson as this was the second game in as many days, but nearly all of the players who were able to go played well during their time on the floor.
Here are the Nets player grades following Sunday's win over the Bucks:
Murray started this game as the starting point guard with the Nets resting so many players following Saturday's loss to the Sacramento Kings. He did a good job of setting the pace on the offensive end and he was able to get to his spots on the floor and find his teammates for open looks when they were available. Most importantly, Murray kept his turnovers low for how often he had the ball in his hands.
Sallis saw more playing time in this one with several players out for this matchup and he showed more of his ability to create for himself, especially off the dribble. However, Sallis did not turn in an efficient shooting performance despite getting some good looks, but he did a great job of contributing in almost every way, especially through his passing and defense.
Ukomadu did a good job of scoring the ball in an efficient manner and he even stretched the floor with his ability to hit the three-pointer. Ukomadu didn't do much else on the offensive end of the floor, but he was solid on the defensive end and kept his fouls relatively low.
Humrichous was one of the players who saw the floor yesterday, but he had a much better game this time around thanks to his hot shooting from behind the three-point line. Humrichous didn't score a point from anywhere other than three-point land, but that's okay given that he spread the floor with his shooting and did his share of rebounding to help the team.
Brennan turned in a nice game after getting some good looks in the fourth quarter to have an efficient offensive performance filled with mostly layups. Brennan more than did his part through his rebounding as he maintained that presence on the glass for the majority of his time on the floor. Brennan was also solid on the defensive end as well with his size and physicality.
Dainja was part of a great bench unit for the Nets in this one as he was efficient on the offensive end, especially around the rim as he absorbed contact on his drives. Dainja did a good job of rebounding the basketball and moved his feet well on the defensive end to make some nice plays along the way.
Aside from the high number of fouls that he committed, Brown did virtually everything that was asked of him on Sunday as he scored the ball well, rebounded, and made some nice passes, especially in the pick-and-roll to guys like Duke Brennan. Brown came off the floor in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be a left leg injury so the hope is that he is fine moving forward.
Scott was one of the few Nets who saw playing time that struggled with his shot, but Scott did a good job of contributing in other ways. Scott was active in the rebounding phase of the game and he had a solid defensive game with the way that he moved his feet and applied pressure without fouling.
