Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. was hoping that he could make it to the NBA All-Star Game for the first time in his career given how he's played this season. Based on the fan voting portion, it seemed that Brooklyn would be sending Porter to All-Star weekend, but it seems that the Eastern Conference head coaches felt that other players were more deserving of the honor.
Various NBA reporters, including ESPN's Shams Charania, reported on Sunday, later confirmed by the NBA, which players made the Eastern Conference reserves list and Porter was not among the names listed. The reserves for the East are Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, Atlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson, New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns, Indiana Pacers forward Pascal Siakam, Miami Heat guard Norman Powell, Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes, and Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren.
Those seven players will join Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey, Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. The reserves were selected by the Eastern Conference head coaches as opposed to the original voting system and it seems that Porter fell by the wayside in the eyes of the coaches.
Porter, 27, is having the best season of his career as he is averaging 25.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 48.2% from the field and 39.8% from three-point land in 38 appearances. While Brooklyn (13-34) has one of the worst records in the Eastern Conference, part of Porter's case was the fact that the Nets are just 1-8 without him in the lineup, demonstrating his importance to the team.
Ultimately, Porter did not make it to the All-Star team for this season and until it is communicated how the coaches voted for the players, it's hard to know who Porter lost out to. Most likely, the choice probably came down to Porter and Indiana Pacers forward Pascal Siakam, but either way, the former Denver Nuggets sharpshooter will have to move on with the rest of the season hoping to continue how well he has been playing this year.

Wow, I really thought Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. was going to the All-Star Game. My guess is that the voting came down to Porter and Pacers forward Pascal Siakam. https://t.co/09uVZSckSk
