NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets forward Josh Minott has been a pleasant surprise for the Nets ever since he came over from the Boston Celtics via trade in exchange for cash. With Brooklyn dealing with numerous injuries to key members of the rotation as well as some of the rookies, Minott has been in a position to show off his game and head coach Jordi Fernandez wants that to continue.

"There’s different types of rebounders, right? Rebounders that read the flight of the ball, hit on the ground. There’s others that go get it, so athletic. I think Josh can do both," Fernandez said of Minott prior to Tuesday's matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks. Minott did not start in Sunday's 121-115 win over the Washington Wizards, but he did drop 15 points and three blocks in just 18 minutes so the improved rebounding could be icing on the cake.

"At the end of the day, we need to see the efficiency in the numbers. He’s been great, like I said the other day, in everything," Fernandez continued. "how quickly he adjusted to being in a new environment as a teammate, and then how quickly he has embraced everything we’re trying to do, Xs and Os, offense and defense. I necessarily don’t think, or I would have to look at the numbers, if it’s good or bad rebounding for his position."

Minott, 23, is having the best season of his four-year career if you just take into account his production since arriving in Brooklyn prior to the February trade deadline. Minott is averaging 10.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 49.1% from the field and 39.5% from three-point land in 16 games (one start) played for the Nets.

Since coming to Brooklyn, Minott has been more known for his scoring and defensive playmaking than he is for his work on the glass, but that doesn't mean that he can't take that step in his overall game. Minott does have a team option for the 2026-27 season worth $2.5 million so it's possible that his attention to improving his overall impact on the game could be his ticket to the Nets picking up that option.
