LAS VEGAS -- Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin had a promising rookie season in 2025-26 when he showed his ability the three-pointer at a much higher level than he did in his freshman year at BYU. While Demin looked like he could be one of the best shooters in the NBA someday, he had other areas of his game to work on, including his driving to the rim.
"That was the emphasis of the offseason, I would say. I've been telling this to people before, I believe that as long as I get stronger in the lifting room, that's going to help me to execute certain things on the court," Demin said to the media following Friday's 91-65 win over the New York Knicks in the Las Vegas Summer League. Demin finished the contest with 20 points and three rebounds, but it was notable that he finished shooting 7-of-15 from field despite shooting 3-of-9 from behind the three-point line.
"Especially because I'm working on that stuff from day to day. What I'm thinking about is how can I get those habits of getting to the paint as much as I can," Demin continued. "I got so much stronger and that gave me more confidence. Obviously, trying is the next step, right? So, as much as I try, I think it gets better and better. So, I'm very excited with all the work that I've done for that, and it's gonna keep growing for sure."
Demin, 20, is well on his way to averaging impressive numbers in Las Vegas after dropping 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 55.6% from the field and 26.7% from deep in two games played in the California Classic. During his rookie season, Demin took 71.7% of his shots from behind the three-point line, but he noted that he needs to be more of a threat getting in the paint and attacking the rim.
More to the point, Demin shot just 55.1% at the rim (field-goal attempts between zero and three feet from the basket), ranking him 513th out of 569 players last season. With the way Demin is going thus far in Brooklyn's summer league circuit, he should finish significantly better in terms of finishing at the rim and he attributes that to his work in the weight room and on the court.
