Sometimes, numbers don't tell an entire story. They don't paint a large enough picture. A quick stat dive tells us Kelee Ringo allowed three catches for 69 yards during the Philadelphia Eagles' loss vs. the New York Giants. Why does it feel like his night was worse than that?

Pro Football Focus gave him the lowest grade of any Eagles defender, yet it seems his night was worse than that. He was embarrassed and victimized by Lil'Jordan Humphrey fr 34 yards on the first drive. He fell asleep on a catch-and-run by Wan’dale Robinson. The latter lost his balance after snagging one, but was able to get up and run because Ringo lost focus and forgot to touch him while on the turf, which would have ended the play.

When he wasn't giving up yards through the air, he committed penalties and still gave up yards. What made things worse was that the game was nationally televised, and now, criticism has reached the national media. One of the voices at ESPN saw fit recently to place his performance under the microscope.

The negative buzz around Kelee Ringo has now gone national.

Nationally televised games often draw national responses on large platforms. ESPN's Bill Barnwell recently offered his take on several guys who are on the hot seat. Kelee Ringo gets the nod after some underwhelming performances to begin the Eagles' season.

"Howie Roseman's draft philosophy over the past few years has been brutally effective: Find a Georgia Bulldogs defender, draft him and profit... The one who hasn't quite worked out is Ringo. Roseman traded a 2024 third-round pick to acquire Ringo in the fourth round of the 2023 draft, the sort of impatient move the veteran GM usually prefers to be on the other side of making. Ringo wasn't involved on defense in 2023 until the late-season collapse, and with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean emerging as stars in 2024, he averaged about four defensive snaps per game outside of a rest day for the starters in Week 18."

Sadly, the feedback only gets worse.

"After trading Darius Slay away during the offseason, the Eagles have flirted with different options on the outside at cornerback. Ringo was torched by Ja'Marr Chase in the preseason, which might have steered Vic Fangio to start Adoree' Jackson in the opener. After three games, Jackson was pulled for Ringo, who started each of the next two weeks. (Jackson was brought back into the fold when Mitchell went down injured Thursday against the Giants.)"

Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio met with the Philadelphia media on Tuesday. He has already stated Ringo and Adoree Jackson will start if Quinyon Mitchell isn't cleared for contact and deemed ready to go. Barnwell doesn't rule out the possibility of the Eagles making a move and adding to the nest before the November 4th trade deadline.

"The Eagles can keep the faith with Ringo. They can turn back to Jackson, who was run through on a touchdown by Skattebo and has already essentially been benched once this season... To bring it full circle, though, this is Roseman's team. If there's one thing he's known for besides drafting Georgia defenders, it's making plenty of trades. With the deadline just weeks away and that outside cornerback role across from Mitchell and DeJean continuing to be a liability, would anyone be surprised if the Eagles made a move for a veteran cornerback who could step into the lineup at midseason? I'd expect Roseman to be hitting the phones in search of CB help between now and Nov. 4, which would squeeze Ringo out of a starting role."

Start the clock if you haven't already. It took a while for Kelee Ringo to crack the starting lineup, but he may not stay there if he doesn't begin showing the traits of someone ready for primetime.

We'll see what happens. If you haven't heard already, the Eagles play the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7 this coming Sunday. Rumor has it the Vikes have a couple of decent receivers. Philadelphia's secondary and linebackers will have their hands full with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and tight end T.J. Hockenson.
