Well that was fun and I can say that without being sarcastic. What seems like the first time in a long time, Nebraska played a full game. Offensively it seemed like everything was falling, especially in the second half. Defensively the suffocated Richmond’s offense and really made to hard to get any sort of scoring done. Britt Prince and Callin Hake score in double digits in Nebraska’s win over the Spiders.

The Huskers will take on Baylor on Friday on the Round of 64 at 1:00 pm.

First Quarter

Britt Prince gets Nebraska started off in the scoring with a mid range jumper. Good defense by the Huskers lead to a one and done by Richmond and then Callin Hake drills the corner three (5-0 Neb). Maggie Doogan for the Spiders hits a three to cut that lead to two. Prince makes a defender skate right by her and she hits another mid range shot. I’m sorry, but Petra is such a liability defensively, she’s just not fast enough to cover down low. Richmond has taken the 10-7 lead after back to back turnovers by Nebraska. Jessica Petrie gets a beautiful lob pass into Amiah Hargrove for her first points. Kennadi Williams forces a Spider turnover and we head to a media timeout with 4:45 left in the first.

Jessica Petrie has 3 straight assists as she hits a back door cutting Prince. Logan Nissley hits the in bound corner three, Nebraska is up 16-14. Britt Prince gets the block which will ultimately end in a Petrie three. Not a lot happened in those last few minutes, Richmond went over two minutes without scoring and Nebraska was getting some good looks, but they just didn’t fall. The Huskers will take the 19-14 lead into the second quarter.

Second Quarter

Kennadi Williams notches her first points with a corner three. Williams does head to the locker room now as she collided with Prince and the floor. Amiah Hargrove drives to the hoop, gets fouled and will shoot free throws (2 of 2). Britt Prince passes the ball over the trees into Petra Bozan and she converts, Nebraska is up 26-18. Hargrove gets fouled and will head back to the charity stripe, she makes the first and then Richmond called a timeout with 6:33 left in the first half.

Amiah Hargrove will make her second free throw. I really just dislike when we chuck up threes so early in the shot clock and even more when it’s our bigs doing it. Callin Hake will hit her second three of the night putting the Huskers up 31-23. Good news is Kennadi Williams is back on the court after going to the locker room early this quarter. A media timeout is taken with 4:06 left in the half.

Out of the timeout, Callin Hake ties the ball up with a Richmond player and it gives Nebraska the ball. Britt Prince gets her second block of the game. Jessica Petrie takes the ball to the rim and will get rewarded with free throws (1 of 2). Hake throws the head fake, makes her defender bite and blows right by her for a quick two (34-26 Neb). Emily Fisher gets called for a foul that was clearly a tie-up, but we move forward. Richmond has cut it to a four point game with those free throws. Another foul with send the Spiders to the free throw line to try and cut the lead to two.

The threes are falling for the Huskers tonight as Prince hits one from the right side. Fourth Quarter

The Huskers pick up where they left off and get the ball inside the paint to Bozan for two. Prince. Mid range. What’s new? Callin Hake. Taking a charge. What’s new? Prince, mid range, Hake, another charge. I’m starting to sound repetitive. I don’t even know what to say anymore, Britt Prince has just taken over this game. Jessica Petrie sends the ball into the media with that block. Claire Johnson sacrifices her body by taking another offensive foul. Media timeout with 4:46 left in the game.

Claire Johnson drills the left wing three to put Nebraska up 72-47. Claire Johnson. Three. Assisted by Kennadi Williams cross court. Nebraska has FINALLY closed out a game up double digits. This was an all around great game from the Huskers offensively and defensively and it’s something I feel like we haven’t seen too much this year. The third quarter is really what one this game when the Huskers went of a 17-0 run.
