Nebraska volleyball picked up a homegrown Husker and legacy recruit to be its first class of 2028 commit. Middle blocker Shayla Rautenberg announced she is staying home for her collegiate career.
Rautenberg announced the commitment on social media, verbally committing to Nebraska after a strong sophomore season at Milford High School. The 6-foot-3 blocker led the Eagles to their first NSAA Class C1 State Title in volleyball and girls’ basketball.
Rautenberg hit .366 with 47 aces this past season. She averaged 5.6 kills, 2.0 digs and 1.1 blocks per set. On the basketball court, she averaged 18.2 points and 14.5 rebounds per game, but has stated that she will play only volleyball in college.
The legacy recruit ranks No. 3 overall in the Class of 2028 according to PrepDig and is the top-ranked middle blocker. PrepVolleyball lists her as the No. 4 prospect in her class and the second-best middle blocker.
In her statement on social media, Rautenberg expressed her excitement about playing for a program that holds deep meaning for her family.
Rautenberg is the daughter of Nebraska All-American outside hitter Lisa Reitsma. Reitsma played for the Huskers from 1995 to 1998 and was a member of the 1995 national championship team. She was inducted into the Nebraska Hall of Fame in 2025.

“I am beyond blessed to announce my verbal commitment to play volleyball at Nebraska!!! I first want to thank coach Dani, coach Jaylen, coach Kelly and coach Brennan for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity. Thank you to all of my teammates and coaches who have helped me get to this point. Most importantly, I want to thank God for blessing me with the ability to play the sport that I love!”
