Iowa has moved onto the Elite Eight after a dramatic ending to Thursday night's tilt against Nebraska. However, Nebraska will be seeing the final minute of this game in their nightmares for some time, as the Cornhuskers had just four players on the court for the game-deciding play.
With Iowa leading 71-68 and both teams coming out of a Nebraska time out with less than a minute to play, the Hawkeyes were gifted a glorious opportunity to widen their lead as Alvaro Folgueiras took a long pass down the court for a basket and one. Folgueiras was only as wide open as he was because Nebraska had just four players on the court at that moment, as the team realized too little too late they were down a man.
The disastrous mistake put the game on ice for Iowa, as Folgueiras' made free throw gave the Hawkeyes an insurmountable lead that turned into a 77-71 loss for Nebraska.
Talk about an absolutely brutal mistake to make. On the replay, Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg clearly realizes the error just before the play begins, but it was too little too late to matter. Even worse for Nebraska, they were coming out of their own timeout on the play too!
This is definitely a mistake that will haunt Nebraska for some time.
