Husker history was made Thursday in Oklahoma City.
No. 4 seed Nebraska beat No. 13 Troy 76-47 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
No longer will Nebraska be tagged with the forlorn distinction of being the only power program without an NCAA Tournament win.
Chants of “Husker Power” and “Go Big Red” reverberated inside Paycom Center, which overflowed with Nebraska fans.
Pryce Sandfort drained seven 3-pointers. The Huskers led by as many as 30 points. Nebraska made more 3-point field goals (14) than Troy made field goals (13). It was a 40-minute coronation for Fred Hoiberg’s squad.
Hoiberg’s son, Sam, a starting guard for the Huskers, held up his fist to an arena full of adoring fans when he checked out with two minutes left.
Nebraska was 0-8 all-time in the NCAA Tournament before Thursday.
Nebraska will face the winner of No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 12 McNeese State on Saturday.
