The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the three finalists for the Bowerman on Monday. Being named as the women's finalists is Nebraska's Axelina Johansson.
The Bowerman is the highest track and field accolade given annually to the most outstanding college male and female athletes. Johansson was named a finalist alongside Adaejah Hodge and Dejanea Oakley of Georgia. She is the first Nebraska finalist in program history for the award, which was first presented in 2009.
Johansson becomes a finalist after sweeping the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Shot Put Championships, breaking the indoor collegiate record (19.72m, 64-8 ½) and the outdoor championship meet record (19.97m, 65-6 ¼). The native of Hok, Sweden, also holds the indoor and outdoor school records and the Swedish national record.
This all concludes a stellar collegiate career for Johansson. She finished as a seven-time First-Team All-American, the 2026 Honda Award for Track and Field winner, the USTFCCCA Women’s National Field Athlete of the Year, a 2026 World Championships Bronze Medalist, and a six-time NCAA medalist.
Fan voting for the Bowerman begins Tuesday, June 30th at 3 p.m. CT, and runs through July 2. Voting can be done here. The Bowerman winners will be announced on Dec. 17 at the USTFCCCA Convention in Grapevine, Texas.
