Walt Frazier delivered a funny moment during the Dallas Mavericks’ 114-97 win over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Monday.
The Knicks legend was on commentary with Mike Breen as they discussed Klay Thompson’s impressive career accomplishments.
Breen listed the four championships, five All-Star selections, and his place among the NBA’s greatest shooters, but Frazier decided to add a cheeky twist that caught everyone off guard.
It was a lighthearted line that drew laughter on the broadcast, but some fans suggested that Thompson might not have appreciated Frazier’s comment.

As Breen praised Thompson’s achievements, Frazier interrupted with a comment that quickly spread on social media.
“His real claim to fame is Megan Thee Stallion,” Frazier joked about Thompson’s girlfriend on MSG Network.
The remark, delivered with Frazier’s trademark wit, prompted laughter from Breen and became one of the night’s biggest talking points online.

Some fans praised the 80-year-old broadcaster’s humour, while others suggested the comment might frustrate Thompson, who has spent years building one of the most respected careers in basketball.
The exchange was clearly lighthearted, but for a player who prides himself on his professionalism and legacy, it might not have been the compliment he was hoping for.
Klay Thompson’s season so far
Thompson is averaging 12 points in 22 minutes per game this season, shooting 39% from the field and 38% from three-point range.
Those are respectable numbers, but far below the peak standards that made him a four-time NBA champion with Golden State.
His minutes have been managed carefully as Dallas battles through a tough year marked by injuries to Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving.
At 18–26 and sitting 12th in the Western Conference, the Mavericks are unlikely to make a serious playoff push this season.
Thompson’s experience and leadership remain invaluable, but it’s been a frustrating campaign both for him and the franchise.
