Giannis Antetokounmpo is finally heading to another team, and unfortunately, it's not the Boston Celtics.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday night that the Miami Heat traded Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, one pick swap and one second-round pick to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis.
The Heat's offer surpassed the Celtics', and Charania noted the Celtics' proposal to the Bucks. He reported that the Celtics offered Jaylen Brown along with two first-round picks.
The Celtics aggressively pursued Giannis, offering Milwaukee a package featuring 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown and two first-round picks, sources tell ESPN. The Bucks seriously negotiated with two finalists in recent weeks: Miami and Boston, which were both on Antetokounmpo’s list… https://t.co/BVY37MwP4K

Clearly, the Bucks wanted more players and draft picks than just a star in return for Antetokounmpo. Brown would have been the best player the Bucks could have received in either trade with the Celtics or the Heat. However, it seems that they preferred to get four players and a handful of draft picks to rebuild their roster.
Now the attention will turn to what the Celtics will do with Brown. Sometimes it's hard for a player to want to return to a team after they know their team was trying to trade them.
Although the Celtics didn't acquire Antetokounmpo, they could still make a significant trade this offseason that would send Brown to another team.
