NBA Insider Explains What Should 'Terrify' Celtics With Jaylen Brown-Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Idea originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Amid rampant trade rumors linking the Boston Celtics to Milwaukee Bucks' two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, NBA senior writer Chris Mannix recently warned Brad Stevens and company against such a move.
Mannix specifically advised against moving star guard Jaylen Brown in a possible deal for Antetokounmpo.
"I would not trade Jaylen Brown for Giannis straight up. I wouldn't do it," the Sports Illustrated scribe told NBC Sports Boston recently. "Giannis is too unpredictable. These soft tissue injuries would terrify me. He's 31 years old, looking for a max contract, coming off his history of injuries. The injury history of Giannis would scare the crap out of me."
Antetokounmpo was limited to a career-low 36 games this season, primarily due to a nagging calf strain.
He'd appeared in at least 61 regular-season contests in each of his first 12 NBA campaigns, however.
Mannix also said the Celtics shouldn't "mess with" their current core.
"Don't mess with success, man. Look what you've got here. You've got success in Boston. Do not screw it up," he said. "Everybody in the league is trying to get their hands on versatile two-way wings like Jaylen Brown. Somebody will happily take him off your hands if you make him available. As much as I love Giannis, I wouldn't take him right now over Jaylen Brown."
Boston has made the playoffs in 12 straight seasons, which is the league's longest active streak, but the team hasn't made it past the second round since it won the 2024 NBA title.
