Less than 24 hours after the Memphis Grizzlies blew a 29-point first-half lead in a devastating 114-108 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of their first-round NBA playoff series, the team got even more bad news.
Star point guard Ja Morant, who exited Thursday’s loss in the second quarter after taking a hard face-first fall to the floor, was ruled out for Game 4 on Saturday with a hip injury, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The injury occurred with 3:15 left before halftime when Morant went airborne on a fast break and tried to make something happened over Thunder guard Luguentz Dort, who fouled him.
Morant remained on the court for his free-throw attempts (he missed both) before being helped to the locker room. Memphis led 67-40 when he exited, but the team’s double-digit lead was gone midway through the fourth quarter.
After the game, Dort explained the contact between he and Morant was purely incidental.
“I was slipping,” Dort stated. “I tried to make a play on the ball, but we just ran into each other, and he fell down. But I hope he’s OK. I didn’t mean to hit him like that.”
Because Dort fouled Morant on the play that injured him and knocked him out of Saturday’s contest, fans on social media believe it’s only fair that Dort suffer some sort of repercussion for his actions.

“Dort shouldn’t be allowed to play until Ja can,” one fan suggested.
“Lu Dort deserves to be suspended for the rest of the playoffs!” another proposed.
“People like Lu Dort should be investigated by the league,” a third fan exclaimed.
“When will Dort face consequences for all of his dirty plays?” one user asked.
“Kick that dirty linebacker Dort out of the league,” another user scoffed.
“Lu Dort intentionally ended his season. Suspend him,” one fan declared.
“Fine Lu Dort,” remarked another user.
With the Grizzlies in a 3-0 hole and their best player out for Game 4, the consensus on social media is that the series is already over.
