The Memphis Grizzlies' Game 3 collapse against the Oklahoma City Thunder was compounded by a pivotal moment late in the second quarter: a collision between Lu Dort and Ja Morant that left the Grizzlies star with a left hip injury. The Thunder capitalized on Morant's absence, rallying from a 29-point deficit to win 114-108 and take a 3-0 series lead.
Dort addressed the incident postgame, stating (via The Memphis Commercial Appeal), "I was slipping. I tried to make a play on the ball, but we just ran into each other, and he fell down. But I hope he's OK. I didn't mean to hit him like that."
However, fans across social media were skeptical of Dort's explanation, questioning the nature of the play and expressing concern for Morant's well-being.
"How you slipping and try to make a play on the ball? If you slipping just give up on the play so reckless things like that don't happen."
"Dort know damn well he is built like an NFL player in the NBA and Ja be jumping and falling everywhere on the court…"
"Guy thinks we're gonna believe this lol."
"People still gonna defend him like he didn't just outright admit to trying to make a play on the ball while he was slipping..."
"And I hope someone accidentally returns the favor."

Despite the criticism, Dort mentioned that he approached Morant during the game to apologize.
"When he was at the line, I dapped him up and I apologized obviously," he said. "It's never good when a good player like that goes down. But people can say whatever they want. He dapped me up. That was it. That was enough. At least he knows that I didn't mean to take him down like that."
As the Grizzlies prepare for Game 4, Morant's status remains uncertain. The team has not provided an update on his condition following the injury. Game 4 is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at FedExForum, where Memphis will attempt to stave off elimination.
