We won’t do this, but say we leave booker unprotected and he goes to Vegas. Do we just get his salary to spend on free agency right away?

Maybe not with a player of his caliber, but would this be a potentially good strategy for dumping a bigger salary guy, or easier way to shake up the roster without a trade?

LeBron James no longer has any intention to pursue being part of an ownership group for a potential NBA expansion franchise in Las Vegas, James said after the Lakers’ win on Wednesday night. The NBA announced on Monday that a vote will be held at the Board of Governors meetings, March 24-25, to explore adding expansion teams exclusively in Las Vegas and Seattle.

No one wants to play in DC or for DC, the two biggest factors for a team's success. Ownership and location.

The Wiz pulled some big names but they do not want to play there. Vegas and Seattle are attractve for sure.

Bad basketball is inevitable. Wasn't it 2 years ago when 5 guys when off for 60+ before the end of January? No one on their soapbox now complained then about the quality of the league. 2 more managed to join that list as well. The players were KAT, Book, Giannis, Embiid, and Luka. Steph had 60 on February 3rd and Brunson had 61 on March 29th.

They need to get a better way to counter tanking instead of fighting expansion to improve the game.

They could also do something to allow perimeter defense so it's not a 3pt contest with a timer. I'd love to see them expand the court so the line went the same distance around but that's prime real estate for the league. They can take the seats from the back of the lower bowl but ultimately they view it as losing seats which is a no go. Adding the additional teams would be the time to implement a change like that.

Shams says he has heard a lot of talk on the Timberwolves being the team to move to the Eastern Conference if expansion happens:

“When I talk to people around the league it’s likely going to be Minnesota or Memphis. A little bit of a lean on Minnesota because there’s that cluster of MIN, IND, MIL, CHI. So I have heard a lot of Minnesota chatter”

I think they should allow the new CBA to fix some things I think it's fixing right now first. Things like loading up on max players, Re-thinking about giving someone max money, building through the draft and g-league. This should balance out some teams and make team play more interesting. Give the new CBA time to do its purpose, I hated it at first but it makes a lot of sense.

It's well past time to expand the NBA, certainly for a team like the Seattle Supersonics.

Las Vegas has been waiting for awhile too and it's best to add a pair of teams.

The West should have been restricted. Put all the Cali teams together with the other West Coast teams in Seattle and Portland.

The Suns with Las Vegas, Denver, Utah, OKC

The Texas team Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Memphis, and New Orleans.

Minnesota moving East. All of those divisions in the East look fine.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson releases a statement ahead of the NBA expansion vote

“Seattle is ready to welcome the Sonics home. We never stopped being a basketball city, and the fans have never given up. You see it in our parks, in our schools, in packed gyms in every neighborhood, and in our Seattle Storm championships. We built a world-class arena. We have a strong economy and a dedicated workforce. We are prepared, we are united, and we are ready for the next chapter of our Sonics.”

This starts the NBA's 32-team expansion process. Multiple high-ranking officials have termed expansion as "when, not if." Now the NBA will examine Seattle and Las Vegas bids over the next several months, and whether to execute the new franchise purchases now or in a few years.

The league put itself in this position by using Seattle and Vegas as potential moving destinations, like the NFL did with LA and Vegas. Eventually it requires action.

Im happy Seattle will get a team back and the league loses leverage when negotiating arena deals in other cities.

I thought Vegas should’ve been Nashville then I forgot Tennessee already had a team. Louisville would’ve been a good one because it’s a basketball town with major corporations. Or maybe expand one team to Seattle and move the Hornets who nobody in New Orleans cares about.

Probably because they play in Charlotte ;)

I think Nashville, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh are all Eastern cities who could see teams by expansion or relocation.

Magic Johnson is aggressively pursuing a majority ownership stake in a future NBA expansion team in Las Vegas.Johnson met with Nevada governor Joe Lombardo and others this month to discuss his plan of ownership and building a state-of-the-art arena on the Las Vegas Strip. The Lakers legend is already a minority owner of the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Dodgers, LA Sparks, Los Angeles FC, and NWSL’s Washington Spirit.

Jason Kidd on Wednesday's NBA Expansion Vote:

"So you know, for that to take place, I think when you talk about expansion, it's showing the game's growth," Kidd tells me.

"And then you talk about two great cities, Seattle and Vegas. And so to be able to go back to Seattle is incredible, another great sports town."

"We talk about that little track factor even farther back to where it used to be, Vancouver, Seattle, or Portland.

That was a lot of fun. And again, when you get a city like Seattle back into the fold, it will be exciting."
