It has now been two and a half weeks since LeBron James let the Los Angeles Lakers know he was leaving them in free agency, and he still hasn't chosen a new team — at least officially. There are several teams thought to be in the running, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors, and everyone across the NBA is seemingly sitting tight and waiting for some sort of announcement.

It looks like even NBA commissioner Adam Silver is getting impatient.

Silver was at the CNBC Sport x Boardroom: Game Plan Summit at Fanatics Fest in New York City, where James has been for the last couple of days. He said that he would like James to make an announcement soon so that the league can complete its schedule for the upcoming season.

"Where LeBron plays will affect the schedule," Silver said. "So, I would like him to make his announcement already, so we can finish the schedule. Because, as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule. … It will influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week, Christmas Day, etc., etc. So, I need him to make a decision."

Historically, the NBA releases its schedule for the upcoming season in August, but key matchups, such as those on opening night and Christmas Day, are leaked a little earlier than that.

The 2026-27 campaign could very well be James' last in the NBA, and even if it isn't, the league will want to take advantage of James' ability to draw in fans to schedule his new team to play on national TV on certain dates.
