The NBA season is still over 3 months away from opening tip-off. Even with basketball season so far away, the league is trending across the sports world because LeBron James is still a free agent.
James announced his decision to leave the Los Angeles Lakers on June 30th. This ends his eight-year run with the franchise. Now it’s been 17 days since that decision was made.

Not only are fans around the world waiting for James to decide where he’ll play next, but so is NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

On Thursday, Silver spoke at the CNBC/Boardroom game summit. James was a talking point with the league’s head man. Silver admitted that the delay in making a decision is halting the NBA schedule process.
Silver said, “I would like him to make his announcement already, so he can finish the schedule. Because as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule.”

It’s almost a guarantee that LeBron James plays on both opening night and on Christmas. Both are huge national TV days for the league. The schedule is being made now, as it’s usually fully complete and announced in August.

Regardless of where James ends up, there are a plethora of fun games that can be made for two of the biggest nights of the season.
Christmas Day should see James make his return to Los Angeles. James won’t be booed like he was in Cleveland in 2010, but it’s still a matchup that will be highly anticipated.

For opening night, the matchup will depend on which conference he plays in. Both conferences are still in play to land James. If it’s the Eastern Conference, James lands with Miami, Cleveland, or Philadelphia; the Boston Celtics are a perfect first game.
James staying in the Western Conference would mean he joins Golden State, Minnesota, or Denver. A matchup against Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets would be fun. It’s always a treat to see James and Durant matchup.
