ASU holds NAU on 4th down and will take over on their 46-yard line.

I don't understand the Sun Devils going for it on 4th and 6 at midfield. Now the Lumberjacks take over.

Now NAU has a 4th and 13 at midfield but they punt.

Sun Devils have the ball at their 15 yard line.

Should have 40-50 pts at least on the team from up north. Hopefully this team lives up to some of the hype this year.

Sun Devils get the interception to return the favor, but the play is under review.

And Sam Leavitt with the touchdown pass to Jordyn Tyson.

I don't know how Leavitt was able to lay the ball in there with the pass rush.

NAU has a chance to score again with the ball at the 1-yard line.

And the Lumberjacks score the touchdown but fail to complete the 2-point conversion.

Kenny Dillingham talks about the game. The Sun Devils needed a tough opener. Let's hope they improve.

That was not an 11th ranked team that I watched. Without Cam, this team doesn't have an edge so far.

Hopefully, it's just a hangover from the wild success of last season, coupled with the preseason hype.

A lot of the so called top teams looked rusty and off in their openers. I am guessing that's entirely related to the effects of open transfers. It's going to be a lot more difficult to have continuity going into a new season when a good portion of your roster is turning over every year now.

Just got home from the game. TIRED! The offensive line looked pretty bad, which is troubling as that was supposed to be a strength of the team. Tyson is as advertised, good to see, but we need a secondary target to emerge.

Well, I'm an ASU fan, but also an NAU fan. The home team took care of business, but not, really too me, in an impressive way.
NAU, on the other hand played better than what I thought they would, especially after the first two scores by the Devils.

I liked the Jack's coach and thought he did a reasonably good job of coaching (haven't thought that much about their last few coaches). I also thought their qb played pretty well.

Go, Devils. :sparky:

Go, Jacks.

Yeah, I went with my 83 year old Dad last night and it was kind of rough. Tired is right.

Overall, ASU was not that great to be honest. Both lines struggled more than they should have. Leavitt got blasted several times. He will not last the season that way. Next week the players will have 10 to 20 pounds more than NAU kids and will be faster. They had better tighten up some of that stuff. Running game should've been more of a focus IMO.

Best case scenario is that they were really overlooking this team. But when you are running fake punts in the first quarter, going for it on 4th down at the 50 midway through the fourth quarter up 18, and then coming back out running empty backfield sets with no huddle that probably indicates you were not taking them lightly and in fact wanted to run up the score

Coach Dillingham is classy and no doubt right to give NAU the proper credit due for their performance.

----------------------------

BY DAMON ALLRED ASU reporter, ArizonaSports.com editor:

Dillingham credited NAU’s coaching staff led by Brian Wright, who took the Lumberjacks to an FCS playoff appearance in his first season, for unique defensive looks that had ASU out of sorts.

“It’s not just what we did wrong, it’s also what they did right. I’m a fan of that staff, so go Lumberjacks,” Dillingham said. “And I know coach Wright’s come out to a practice or so down here, and I hope we continue to have a relationship ‘cause he did a phenomenal job today, did a phenomenal job last year.

“And I wanna make sure people are giving him his credit, because I believe that he out-coached me tonight. That’s something that I gotta look at and I gotta figure out how that doesn’t happen again moving forward.”
