There's no doubt that the transfer portal has become an extremely popular way for many college football programs to build up a roster, but bringing in talented high school players is still extremely important.
One team that has not forgotten that is the LSU Tigers, led by head coach Brian Kelly, who in 2024 had a solid season, going 9-4 overall, 5-3 in SEC matchups and defeated the Baylor Bears in the Texas Bowl.
They have already put together a very impressive 2026 recruiting class, which On3 currently ranks as the best in the nation, with a score of 94.62.
One of LSU's biggest additions came on Monday after receiving a commitment from cornerback Havon Finney out of Los Angeles.
Of course, this is major news for the Tigers and Kelly, as On3 industry rankings place Finney as a four-star recruit, the No.7 cornerback, the No. 9 player in California and the No. 55 player in the nation.
They were also competing with a number of high-level programs for his commitment, including USC, Oregon, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Georgia and Texas.
Finney is also an interesting case because he was originally supposed to graduate high school in 2027, but would end up reclassifying to 2026.

In 2024, for Sierra Canyon High School, he put up some impressive numbers, appearing in 12 games, accumulating 37 tackles, four interceptions, 16 pass deflections and one forced fumble.
Some other big names Finney now joins in LSU's recruiting class include five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys, five-star defensive lineman Richard Anderson, four-star safety Aiden Hall and four-star wide receiver Jabari Mack.
