The Texas Longhorns recruiting momentum went from a steady stream to a tidal wave with the addition of the country’s top corner back John Meredith, III to the 2027 class.

BREAKING: Five-Star Plus+ CB John Meredith III has Committed to Texas, he tells me for @Rivals

A consensus five-star wide prospect, ranked No. 2 overall according to the 247Sports Composite, Meredith is truly elite and would have been the crown jewel of any recruiting class. He reported 42 offers heading into his commitment, but seemingly narrowed his focus to three schools, the Texas A&M Aggies, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Longhorns — taking visits to all three. Coming out of his visit to Texas, buzz began to generate that he would make his commitment to Texas, possibly ahead of his scheduled trip to Columbus, OH.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound defender was a two-way player at Euless Trinity High School as a junior, as well as competing as both a sprinter and a triple jumper for the track and field team. Ahead of his senior season, the phenom transferred to North Crowley but was ruled ineligible by the District Executive Committee for District 11 6A, which found he had transferred for athletic reasons. He can appeal to the UIL to overturn the decision, but his chances of playing in 2026 are slim.

He jumps to the top of the Longhorns’ commitment list, ahead of fellow five-star commitment Easton Royal, giving the Longhorns a feather in their cap on both sides of the ball. Meredith is the second cornerback in the class, joining top-100 commitment Karnell James (Manvel) in the fold, giving Texas a bright future at the cornerback position.
