MIAMI – Years after his callout, Nate Landwehr will get his wish.

Around the time of his UFC onboarding in 2020, Landwehr (18-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC) let it be known that the guy he wanted was Cub Swanson. It took approximately six years for that matchup to roll through his manager's email inbox, but days away from Saturday's UFC 327 clash, Landwehr is happy it materialized.

"I was just questioning like, 'Am I getting old?' Then they called, and I'm like, 'Well, he's older,'" Landwehr laughed at a pre-fight news conference Wednesday. "Coming into the UFC from M-1 Global, that was the fight I kind of wanted. We're about to find out Saturday night. We're just two guys. It's going to be like two guys at a baseball game with their sons. We're going to figure it out."

The fight kicks off Saturday's main card at Kaseya Center. While fans expect fireworks, the action potential isn't the main reason for the buzz. Swanson (30-14 MMA, 15-10 UFC) has announced the fight will be the final one of his 21-year professional career. Landwehr is blocking that out.

"That's his storyline," Landwehr said. "That ain't got nothing to do with me. Everything to do with me and I've got my own storyline, and we're going to figure it out. ... I'm trying to get it. I'm trying to go out there and throw hands and get on this winning streak."

Right now, Landwehr's story needs a win after two straight losses to Doo Ho Choi and Morgan Charriere. That's all that matters to him.

"You can put that all on the paper: wrestling, boxing, grappling," Landwehr said. "When you're about to step into that fight, you throw that paper away. We're fighters out here. We're real. When bone hits bone, and you get to bleeding, and your heart rate is up there, this is as real as you can get before it's murder."
