NEED TO KNOW
Nate Burleson said he thought Travis Kelce would excel as a sports commentator after his NFL career ends
He added that he’d “gladly take a pay cut” if CBS wanted to hire Kelce after he left the Kansas City Chiefs
“Whoever is going after Travis, they’re going to have to back that Brinks truck up,” Burleson said
Nate Burleson is eyeing Travis Kelce as a future football commentator.
The former NFL player and CBS Sports commentator, 44, gave his two cents on the Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s future after professional football during a recent appearance on the Front Office Sports HQ podcast. Burleson suggested Kelce — who co-hosts the New Heights podcast with brother Jason Kelce — already had a disposition well suited to a sports commentator.
“Trav is the guy that they’re gonna put on camera and he’s gonna do amazing,” Burleson said. “He’s articulate, he got the swag, he knows the game and he’s a master of being in front of a microphone given his podcast and the success.”

“Travis Kelce is a receiver in the tight end’s body,” he added. “And if we know anything about receivers, we love attention and we love to hear ourselves talk and we love to listen to ourselves. So, he’s going to continue to want to hear himself talk.”
Speculation surrounding Kelce’s future in football comes after several seasons of the tight end publicly toying with the idea of retiring. Across his 13 seasons with the Chiefs, Kelce has helped his team to five Super Bowls, winning three, and cemented himself as one of the league’s most valuable and watched players.
Kelce also recently achieved another milestone with his July 3 wedding to Taylor Swift, which captivated both the football and pop music communities for months ahead of the nuptials. Kelce and Swift, both 36, said “I do” in a lavish wedding held at Madison Square Garden in front of an estimated 1,000 guests, including scores of famous faces.
One thing is for sure, Burleson said: whatever lies in Kelce’s future, he’ll certainly be in high demand.

“What I do know is whoever is going after Travis, they’re going to have to back that Brinks truck up,” Burleson said, “because one, he’s made a ton of money in the league — his lady [Swift] got paper, I’ll be honest, so he’s not gonna show up for cheap change.”

“And I just don’t know if CBS got the budget, but I’d gladly take a pay cut,” Burleson added with a laugh.
Following his exit from the NFL in 2014, Burleson joined CBS This Morning in 2021 and has also served as a studio analyst for The NFL Today.
