Another long-time Nashville Predators executive is leaving the organization for another NHL team.
The San Jose Sharks announced they have hired Jeff Kealty as assistant general manager on July 17. Kealty will work under general manager Mike Grier, his former teammate at Boston University.
Kealty, 50, spent 25 years with the Predators, starting as an amateur scout in 2001. He was elevated to director of amateur scouting in 2007, then to assistant general manager and director of scouting in 2018. In 2025, Kealty was named GM for the U.S. Men's National Team, a team that won the gold medal at the IIHF Men's World Championship that year.
On May 13, Kealty confirmed that he interviewed for Nashville's open general manager position eventually taken by Chris MacFarland. Though he remained with the team after MacFarland was hired on June 2 and throughout the 2026 NHL Draft, Kealty now heads to San Jose in the same position.
"Kealty will oversee the team’s professional scouting staff and work closely with Grier on all aspects of Hockey Operations," the Sharks said in a release.
MacFarland and the Predators released a statement about Kealty's departure on social media, reading:
"On behalf of the Predators organization, I want to thank Jeff Kealty for his 25 years of contributions to our franchise, including the last eight as assistant general manager. Jeff made a considerable impact on the Predators, spending countless hours traveling the world to find the next talented player or fan favorite to add to our roster, either at the draft, in a trade or through free agency. As I stepped into my new role here, I appreciated his leadership and support while we navigated last month's NHL Draft. We wish Jeff and his family all the best with their next chapter in San Jose."
Kealty is the second executive to leave the Predators since MacFarland arrived. On June 5, Brian Poile announced he was leaving Nashville to pursue other opportunities after 16 years with the Predators.
