A councilman and longtime coach in South Jersey has been arrested on allegations that he stole funds from a youth basketball league.
Bruce Darrow, 73, of Brooklawn, was charged Tuesday with third-degree theft, the Gloucester City Police Department said in a statement.
Darrow, a member of the Brooklawn Borough Council, allegedly stole more than $6,000 from the Carmen Palmiero Basketball League, the department said.
The thefts occurred between September 2016 and March 2026, while Darrow served as president of the youth league, police said.
Darrow has been a member of the Brooklawn Council since 2024, according to the borough website. He is also the chair of the ballparks and flooding committees and was the president of the Brooklawn Board of Education for 15 years.
He has been a boys basketball travel coach for 26 years, his bio states.
Brooklawn Mayor Jerry Granstrom did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday evening. The Gloucester City Police Department did not provide a date for Darrow’s first court appearance.
